A young talent once turned down Chelsea, and now he might be the one to fill the void left by Nicolas Jackson at Bayern Munich! It's a twist of fate that football fans love to see. Nicolas Jackson, who was loaned to Bayern Munich for the season, is reportedly heading back to Chelsea this summer. While his time at Chelsea saw him score with a respectable frequency – nearly a goal every two games – he faced a barrage of criticism. Now, his stint in Germany hasn't exactly set the world alight either.
Bayern Munich brought Jackson in on loan for £14 million, with an option to make the move permanent for a hefty £56 million. However, this clause was tied to a specific condition: Jackson needed to play at least 45 minutes in 40 different matches for Bayern this season. Unfortunately for him, he's only managed eight such appearances. This lack of game time means he'll be returning to Stamford Bridge, leaving Bayern in search of a new striker.
But here's where it gets interesting... Even though Jackson only managed five goals during his loan, he was seen as a valuable backup for Harry Kane. Now, with Jackson out of the picture, Bayern has set their sights on a player who has been absolutely sensational at RB Leipzig: Yan Diomande.
Diomande has been a revelation, contributing to 15 goals for Leipzig this season, whether playing on the wing or in a more central role. Leipzig, however, is asking for a staggering £87 million for their star attacker. This isn't just about filling Jackson's shoes; Diomande is widely considered one of the brightest young prospects in German football.
And this is the part most people miss... Yan Diomande actually had the chance to join Chelsea as a teenager! Instead of heading to Stamford Bridge, he embarked on a journey that took him to America and then to Spanish side Leganes. After a brief spell there, scoring just two goals in ten games, he moved to Leipzig.
Diomande himself recently shared his reasoning for choosing Leganes over Chelsea: "A lot of people told me I had to play for Chelsea. I knew the president of Leganes; he had helped with my move to the USA. Suddenly, I was faced with a choice: Leganes or Chelsea? It was risky, but luckily, it was the right decision. I think patience is very important in football. It’s not always just about money." This decision, while risky at the time, has clearly paid off spectacularly.
Now, with Bayern Munich reportedly willing to pay £86 million to secure Diomande's services from Leipzig, it seems the player who once bypassed Chelsea might now be the one to replace a former Chelsea loanee at the German powerhouse.
So, what do you think? Was Diomande's decision to prioritize patience and development over a move to Chelsea the right call? And do you believe Bayern is making a smart move by pursuing him, even at such a high price? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
