Big news for Waymo users! The self-driving car app is getting a makeover, streamlining its interface for a smoother experience. If you're using Waymo to hail a ride in cities like Los Angeles, Phoenix, or San Francisco, get ready for some changes.
Today's update to the Waymo app on both Android and iOS simplifies the bottom bar, bringing it back to four key tabs. Remember the 'My Car' feature that Waymo introduced in September? It's all part of the new streamlined design. Plus, the 'Feedback' option, which used to automatically screenshot your last page, has been relocated to the 'Support' section at the top.
Old vs. New: What's Changed?
The most noticeable change is the introduction of the 'Liquid Glass' bottom bar, which you'll find in version 128 of the Waymo app for iOS. This sleek new design replaces the custom navigation component previously shared across both iOS and Android. While Android still uses a translucent gradient, the iPhone app now features the Liquid Glass keyboard when you're entering locations.
But here's where it gets interesting... Waymo, as an independent entity, doesn't always align with Google's Material Design guidelines. On the Google front, Chrome is the only first-party app on iOS to feature Liquid Glass. This means you'll still find the old iOS keyboard across all other Google apps.
What's next for Waymo?
Waymo announced earlier this month that it's expanding its services to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, and St. Louis.
