Spurs' Wembanyama Achieves Unprecedented Block Record - ESPN
ATLANTA, Dec. 19, 2025 - In a remarkable feat, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs made history on Friday night, achieving his 100th consecutive regular-season game with at least one block during the team's 126-98 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The 20-year-old center dominated the game, recording 26 points, 12 assists, and an impressive two blocks.
Wembanyama's defensive prowess was on full display when he rejected a shot from Dyson Daniels with over five minutes left in the third quarter, showcasing his ability to alter shots and protect the rim. This achievement is even more remarkable considering the streak began during his rookie season. His last regular-season game without a block was on January 10, 2024, against the Detroit Pistons.
Only two players in NBA history have achieved this milestone. Patrick Ewing held the record for 145 consecutive games with at least one block, while Dikembe Mutombo's streak spanned 116 games. Mutombo currently holds the second spot in the NBA record books with 3,289 blocks, just behind Hakeem Olajuwon's 3,830. Blocks became an official NBA statistic during the 1973-1974 season.
Wembanyama's season has been somewhat interrupted, missing 12 games due to a calf strain after a loss to the Golden State Warriors on November 14. However, he returned to action on December 13 in the NBA Cup semifinals, contributing 22 points to the Spurs' 111-109 win over the Thunder. The team's success continues, reaching their 20th win a month ahead of schedule.
Looking ahead, the Spurs will face the Washington Wizards on the road on Sunday night before returning to San Antonio to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wembanyama's performance this season has been a testament to his talent and dedication, solidifying his place as one of the NBA's most promising young players.
