Arne Marit Sprints to Victory in the Trofeo Palma: Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe's Early-Season Dominance Continues
The Challenge Mallorca series witnessed Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe's continued success, with Arne Marit claiming victory in his debut for the team at the Trofeo Palma. This triumph marked the fourth win for the German squad in the series, following their victories in the team time trial Trofeo Ses Salines and Remco Evenepoel's double triumph at the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana and Trofeo Andratx-Pollença.
A four-rider breakaway, consisting of Michel Hessmann (Movistar), Jasha Sütterlin (Jayco-AlUla), Rune Herregodts (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), and Jelle Johannik (Unibet Rose Rockets), had an early advantage, building a lead of over three minutes over the chasing peloton on the hilly mid-stages of the 158km race. However, with teams like Lotto-Intermarché and EF Education-EasyPost interested in a sprint finish, the breakaway's advantage was short-lived.
As the race approached the flat closing circuit around Palma with 38km to go, the gap to the leaders diminished. Sütterlin was the first to drop back from the move at 17km out, followed shortly by Hessmann and Johannik. The race then saw a thrilling sprint finish, with Iván García Cortina (Movistar) making an early move. Arne Marit responded, jumping on the Spaniard's wheel and ultimately hitting the wind first to claim victory.
This victory further solidifies Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe's early-season dominance, leaving fans eager to see how the team performs in the remaining races of the season.
