Samson Gameplay Preview: Brawler, Crime, and Calendar-Based RPG Elements - Is It the Next GTA? (2026)

Samson Preview: A Day-by-Day Journey Through Tyndalston

Have you ever wandered through a neglected neighborhood, envisioning its hidden potential? For Samson, this is a daily reality in Tyndalston's roughest area, The Ditch. As a player, you step into his shoes, embarking on a journey through the city's underbelly. With a mountain of debt to repay, Samson teams up with an old friend, Carter, to take on jobs that range from roughing up debt collectors to chasing rival gang members.

The gameplay is diverse and engaging, offering a mix of hand-to-hand combat and vehicular combat. As Samson, you navigate through various mission types, each presenting unique challenges. My favorite part was the intense hand-to-hand combat, where Samson utilizes light and heavy attacks, parries, and environmental objects to defeat enemies. However, it's not all about brute force; managing Samson's Adrenaline Rush meter allows for slowed-down time and increased damage, proving to be a lifesaver in tricky situations.

The game's structure adds a layer of complexity, mimicking the calendar-based RPGs I adore. Each day is divided into morning, evening, and night, with limited Action Points (AP) for each time slot. Jobs require AP, and failure means losing those points. You must balance earning and repaying debt, or face debt collectors. This unique approach forces strategic decision-making, as certain jobs are time-sensitive, adding depth to the gameplay loop.

Despite its flaws, Samson's core experience is captivating. It's a focused adventure through an East Coast-inspired city in the '90s, with intentionally designed areas that drive both the level and story progression. Unlike massive games with padding, Samson feels like a movie, offering a quick and enjoyable experience. However, glitches and bugs marred my playthrough, which is concerning for an upcoming release.

Liquid Swords, the developer, has time to refine Samson before its April 8th launch on PC. While the game's potential is evident, I hope the team addresses the glitches and enhances the overall experience. Despite its imperfections, Samson's gameplay loop is engaging, and I'm eager to see it captivate the wider player base.
