Moto G (2026) vs Moto G (2025): The Best Under $200 Phone in 2025–2026? (2026)

I've been reviewing phones for over a decade, and the latest revelation has me captivated. The Moto G (2026) is an absolute steal at under $200, and here's why it's my new favorite.

I recently completed my review of the Moto G (2026), and despite its budget-friendly price tag, it's a standout performer. While it may have limitations, it's undoubtedly one of the best cheap phones available today. If you're on a tight budget or simply prefer to spend less on a phone, this is the one to go for.

Here's the twist: it doesn't feel or look cheap. With a stylish vegan leather back and captivating color options (my pick: Cattleya Orchid), it's a head-turner. And its battery life? Impressive. It lasted over 19 hours in our web surfing test, placing it among the top contenders for best phone battery life.

But here's where it gets even more enticing. The Moto G (2025) is now being discounted as retailers make way for the new model. You can grab the unlocked 2025 version for just $149 at Best Buy, or a mere $49 if you activate it with a carrier. Amazon is also offering a $50 discount on the unlocked 2025 model.

So, what's the catch? Well, the Moto G (2026) and its predecessor share many similarities. They both run on the same MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, explaining their comparable performance. Even the design is a carryover from previous Moto G models.

However, there are some key differences. The Moto G (2026) has a slightly longer-lasting battery, with a 40-minute advantage over the 2025 model in our tests. And it's not just about the numbers; the 2026 model was tested on a more demanding battery test, suggesting an even wider gap in real-world usage.

The selfie camera has also been upgraded. The Moto G (2026) boasts a 32MP front camera, compared to 16MP on the 2025 model. This results in slightly more detailed selfies, which is a noticeable improvement for selfie enthusiasts.

And let's not forget about software support. Both phones offer two years of Android software updates and a third year of security support. But with the Moto G (2025) already a year old, its update cycle is closer to the end. The Moto G (2026), on the other hand, starts with Android 16 and will receive updates until Android 18, with an additional year of security support.

So, while the Moto G (2025) might be cheaper, the Moto G (2026) offers better value in the long run. It's a small price to pay for a phone that will stay updated for much longer.

In the world of budget phones, compromises are expected. But the Moto G (2026) manages to strike a balance, offering impressive features at a competitive price. If you're in the market for an affordable phone, this is the one to watch.
