KRT's Dominant Start to the 2026 MXGP Season at Pernes-les-Fontaines (2026)

The KRT Trio Dominate the Podium: A Perfect Start to the Season?

In a thrilling display of motocross prowess, the Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) kicked off their 2026 campaign with a bang at the Pernes-les-Fontaines International event. Romain Febvre, Pauls Jonass, and Mathis Valin, each a force to be reckoned with, took to the track with determination and skill.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, with rain pouring down after a dry morning, the atmosphere was electric. The fans, eager to witness the action, cheered on their heroes, especially the reigning MXGP world champion, Romain Febvre, who made his debut with the prestigious #1 plate.

But here's where it gets controversial... Febvre, in a thrilling duel with his arch-rival Lucas, emerged victorious in the first moto. The track, perfect for racing, allowed him to showcase his skills. However, as the rain intensified, the conditions became brutal, and Febvre faced a tough battle in the third race. Two mistakes cost him dearly, but his determination shone through as he recovered to finish sixth, securing an overall second-place podium finish.

Pauls Jonass, a consistent performer, delivered three solid rides, finishing 3-4-2 in the motos. His performance, a true testament to his skills, earned him a well-deserved spot on the podium alongside his KRT teammate.

And this is the part most people miss... Mathis Valin, a rising star in the MX2 category, dominated the concurrent MXGP race. Despite a DNF in the second race due to an unfortunate collision with a 450 rider, Valin's talent shone through. His third-fastest time in the morning Timed Training against the 450s aboard his KX250-SR was a clear indication of his potential. Even a pit stop for fresh goggles couldn't stop him from finishing sixth in the combined classification, nearly a minute ahead of the next 250 rider.

Romain Febvre, reflecting on his performance, said, "It was a good day overall. The speed is there, and the starts were solid. We've worked hard this winter, and I believe we're on the right track."

Pauls Jonass, happy with his results, added, "The track was challenging, but I felt great on the bike. The hard work during the winter is paying off, and I'm excited for the upcoming races."

Mathis Valin, despite the obstacles, remained positive, "I felt confident in the dry conditions, but the rain made it tough. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to a successful season."

Antti Pyrhönen, KRT's MXGP team manager, summed up the day, "It was a great shake-down for the team. Racing is the true test, and our riders performed exceptionally well. We're building towards the first GP in Argentina, and the hard work continues."

So, what do you think? Was KRT's performance a sign of things to come? Will they dominate the season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
