Description
Amoxyclav 625 Tablet is a combination of Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections that affect the ears, lungs, nose, urinary tract, skin, bones, etc. This medication is effective only for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria and not viruses.Amoxyclav 625 Tablet is effective against a large number of bacteria. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell walls and killing the infection-causing bacteria. Clavulanic acid prevents bacteria from destroying Amoxycillin and ensures extended anti-bacterial activity.Amoxyclav 625 Tablet may cause some less common side effects such as skin rash, headache, dizziness, skin rash/itching, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or if they become severe.Amoxyclav 625 Tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. You will start to feel better in a few days. However, continue taking the medicine for the prescribed duration. Skipping doses or not completing the full course of therapy may result in decreased effectiveness of the medicine or increased risk of re-infection that would be difficult to treat in the future. Amoxyclav 625 Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have any kidney/liver problems before starting treatment with this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding if this medicine has been prescribed to you.

Allergy
Avoid taking Amoxyclav 625 Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of your face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Liver impairment
Amoxyclav 625 Tablet is not recommended if you have a history of liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin) with this medicine due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.

Pregnancy
Due to a lack of safety and efficacy studies in pregnant women, the risk to your developing foetus is not known. If you are pregnant, take Amoxyclav 625 Tablet only if prescribed by your doctor.
Breast-feeding
Amoxyclav 625 Tablet passes into breast milk and may cause diarrhoea in your breastfed infant. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
General warnings
Antibiotic resistance
Antibiotic resistance is a condition in which the antibiotic is not effective against the bacteria. This can be avoided by following the dose and duration of Amoxyclav 625 Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Finish the entire course of treatment even if your symptoms get better. Alternatively, if your symptoms do not get better even after the prescribed duration, consult your doctor.
Driving or operating a machine
Amoxyclav 625 Tablet is not known to affect your ability to drive or operate machines. However, avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience dizziness.
Use in children
Children below 6 years of age and/or weighing less than 25 kg should preferably be treated with Amoxyclav 625 Tablet suspension or paediatric sachets.
Missed Dose
Try not to skip a dose of Amoxyclav 625 Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
Overdose
Do not take excess dose than prescribed by your doctor. Contact your doctor if you suspect an overdose with Amoxyclav 625 Tablet.

Mononucleosis
Mononucleosis is a viral infection that may result in a sore throat, fever, fatigue, rash, etc. Amoxyclav 625 Tablet is not recommended if you have been infected with mononucleosis as you may develop a maculopapular skin rash (flat and small raised bumps on the skin) 5-10 days after starting treatment with this medicine. The rash resolves within days of discontinuing this medicine.
Kidney Disease
Amoxyclav 625 Tablet should be used with caution if you have pre-existing kidney problems due to the increased risk of side effects. Periodic monitoring of your kidney function is recommended. You may require dose adjustments based on your clinical condition.
Colitis
Amoxyclav 625 Tablet can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and leads to diarrhoea. Therefore, use this medicine with extreme caution if you have colitis (swelling of inner lining of your colon).

Report the use of Amoxyclav 625 Tablet prior to the test. This medicine may give a false-positive result for the presence of glucose/sugar in the urine. The urine sugar test should be performed with a different reagent in case you are receiving this medicine.

Clavulanic acid works by preventing bacteria from destroying Amoxycillin. Thus, this combination is effective against an extended range of bacteria.
